Alec waits down in the hotel's lobby keeping himself entertained by flicking sparks of flame up at the ceiling and making them different colors. He's changed clothes into jeans and a tee-shirt, though his long sword is still there. The tee-shirt is black and says, "Can't Sleep. Flowers Will Get Me" in raggedy white print.
He's not at all nervous at the upcoming date though he does feel a bit guilty about asking Merton out on a date like that. The poor guy clearly doesn't seem to have any experience in these matters and Alec isn't sure he's the best first date for someone to have.
Merton shows up only a few minutes late, and only because it took him twenty minutes to try on every shirt he owns until he found one he liked. He's trying very, very hard not to look like he's nervous, and not entirely succeeding.
"Hi! Wow, cool lights." Well, he's suitably distracted for now.
"I found this restaurant, it looks pretty cool. I haven't had much time to eat out since Tommy and I got here. Not that I don't normally! All about going out. Yeah." God someone stop him.
"Like, an entire city made of shrimp? Wouldn't that be extremely unstable, given the rate of decay? I seriously don't see shrimp as being a viable building material in any situation," he says, a little more quickly than he needs to. Okay, so he rambles. It's a character flaw.
This may be a potent combination. They're on the way to the restaurant when Merton finally broaches the subject that's been on his mind ever since Alec and him spoke for the first time. "Um, can I ask you something?"
"Why did you want to go out with me tonight? Because this may shock you to know, but I'm not usually over-whelmed with offers," he's fidgeting as he speaks, his usually nervous energy boiling just under the surface.
"It does have to do with things!" he starts, but he can't really think of any examples and ends up trailing off, "Because... do you really think I'm cute? Sorry, I think that's one of those things I'm not supposed to ask. Tommy's always trying to give me tips so I don't end up getting slapped three minutes into talking to someone."

Still, it should be fun.
Or interesting.
Hopefully both.

He closes his hand and the lights vanish. "Thanks. I suppose it doesn't say much about me that I'm easily entertained by shiny objects, does it?"

There is shiny happening. And magic. You have found a kindred soul, Alec.

"Never mind," Alec says with a grin. "Where we going?"

He's adorable like that.

Alec is having an anti-shrimp thing right now.

"No. I've just ended up in places that are made of shrimp a bit too often and ... margh."

Alec rambles too, when you get him on a subject.

"Sure. What's up?" He's enjoying looking around at everything.

"I don't really see what that has to do with anything. You're cute and seemed like fun and that seemed like a fun idea."

Alec's on a roll tonight. He's not mentioned the fact that he has no taste.
